NASA Prepares SmallSats for SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch

Three NASA-supported small spacecraft were encapsulated into a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket for an October 1, 2026, launch. The payload includes the ASCENT Propulsion Dual Mode CubeSat, the SPRITE CubeSat, and the SSPICY mission.

These satellites aim to test advanced propulsion technologies, investigate galactic dust and high-energy radiation, and improve methods for inspecting inactive satellites. The mission, part of the Transporter-18 launch, carries these research tools alongside various commercial payloads to demonstrate new capabilities in space exploration and satellite maintenance.
